"I like integrating tradition and physical activity. Teaching children lion dance is rewarding as I get to see the children gain skills, confidence, and team work. I enjoy seeing them from training to stage performance."

"I wanted to show that Asian women are as strong and capable as men in performing this art, which was once forbidden to women because we were thought to be weak and inferior. I also wanted to build a space where Asian women can support each other to push ourselves beyond our comfort zones and live bigger lives."

"GK has inspired me to push myself with my strength and abilities. Lion dancing with Gund Kwok helps me stay in touch with my Asian (Chinese) culture and upbringing; as well as allows me to participate in traditional cultural activities, never having experienced when younger. My fellow troupe members are a supportive community - we are always there for one another and have fun together, especially eating delicious food. I am always so proud of my fellow GK sisters - especially seeing our awesome lion and dragon dance performances!"

"I joined so I can mingle with other Asian ladies. It's a different type of workout aside from working out at a regular gym to maintain fitness. Satisfying to know I am able to keep up with the younger folks."

"Being a part of a diverse group of Asian American women in a team atmosphere is one of the appealing aspects of staying with GK for so many years. Transitioning from performing to coaching and leading a team has been an enlightening path of self-discovery and reflection. I find that the troupe is not only a supportive environment in which to grow, both physically and mentally, but also a collegial atmosphere where we eat and laugh together, often. Quite often! What's better than that?"

"I joined in order to challenge myself physically. What I found was that I became stronger mentally and emotionally as well because of the experiences here at GK. The team is very supportive in the lion and outside the lion. You will not find a better group of women who are great coaches and friends at the same time. "
